Electives & Clerkships
Medical students seeking U.S. Clinical Experience (USCE) can participate in electives and clerkships to fulfill elective credit requirements, subject to approval by their clinical dean. These programs provide valuable opportunities to enhance patient interaction skills, refine English proficiency in preparation for the USMLE Step 2 Clinical Skills Exam, and obtain performance-based Letters of Recommendation (LORs) for the upcoming residency match cycle.
Externships
Externships offer International Medical Graduates (IMGs) the opportunity to meet U.S. Clinical Experience (USCE) requirements set by many residency programs. These programs also help IMGs adapt to the U.S. healthcare system by providing hands-on experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR), Electronic Health Records (EHR), medical billing and coding, insurance claim processing, and malpractice case reviews. Additionally, externships serve as a valuable pathway for IMGs to gain recent clinical exposure, particularly for those who have been away from active patient care for an extended period.
